Hey guys,
Just a quick post about the proposals. I'm sure we all got emails with feedback. Please post a comment under this post with your thoughts about how we should proceed.
Our re-submission isn't due until June 30 and I'll be back in town on June 25. If you put your thoughts here, it'll make it easier for me to collate when I get back.
Thanks!
Seems like we need to itemize who will be signing up for which days and how many, especially on the Science proposal. Are we also requesting time with Dr. Pringle?
ReplyDeleteFor the Social Studies proposal, we need to specify that we'll be working during the Aug. 1-5 week when everyone's available (I think that's what we said at WOW...)
Not sure about the math proposal feedback-Is this slated to be worked on next summer now?
What are your thoughts, team?
:) Amanda
Ditto. I think the biggest concern they had was a bit of ambiguity as to who needed what hours to work on what, which needs to be defined more specifically. If we're all asking for 10 hours each, we need to be able to map those hours out as to what we'll be working on in them and when.
ReplyDeleteAs for math, it was my understanding that it was postponed. I think what we decided was to work on the Science first, since it's the most developed and manageable, then the one unit in reading, and let the fine tuning on the second reading unit for this year and the math go until maybe next summer. I think Marisa thought we were biting off more than we could chew (imagine that).
That's my 2 cents.
I believe Amanda is correct and that all we really need to do with Reading/SS is change the proposal from the three "stages" we currently have to the Aug 1-5 work week a d indicate that we will all be there. It is my understanding that we all set that week aside for this purpose. Is therre someone that is willing to do that?
ReplyDeleteFor the Science, I'm not sure how to delineate it. It is my thinking that the time with Rose would be set up individually, but we need to specify if that is a requirement or an option. Perhaps more chat with Marisa is necessary there. As for the units themselves, I think we should bring them back to 5 days. I don't think it should take any of us more than 40 hours of work to put the units together. Then we can add one day for consultation with Rose.
I think we just need to tell them the math is on hold and not worry about tht at the moment.
Thoughts?
Agreed, Cary... Ditto on everything you've said so far.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I do have one suggestion as far as the days go for science - what if Rose gives us suggestions/feedback one day, and we need another day or two to then implement those changes/modifications?
So, 5 days for unit planning, 1 day for Rose consultation, 1 day for follow-up? And what about our collective sharing/feedback protocal of our Units? Should that be figured into the days as well?
Thanks,
Macy
I'm okay with Macy's suggestions. I'm not sure about the feedback/sharing day simply because I'm no sure therei s day where we all could agree to be back and meet tht isn't allreqdy reserved for something else. If we do it during a regular workday, we can't put it on here to get paid extra.
ReplyDeleteAnyone have other thoughts of how we shuld proceed?
I say we create an extra day each year for just such a purpose, and then tell no one else about it...
ReplyDeleteLynda just sent an email, which kind of already itemizes each proposal and how many days are allotted for each. She did caution us to make sure we can get the "deliverables" out in a timely manner, especially as July is fast on our heels!
ReplyDeleteLynda's email mentioned 5 days for math and three days for reading. Do we need to clarify that we're not doing math and see if we can get the 5 for science?
ReplyDeleteI'm going to email Lynda to clarify. The way I read the email, the math is coming from a separate grant and can't necessarily be moved over to reading, but I'll double check. We should all keep the first week of Aug. clear for the SS/Reading, though.
ReplyDeleteAnother question regarding the science Weebly, When can we find out if we will have access to BrainPoP and if we will be upgrading to the paid Weebly. There are many things I want to include but don't want to get too far if we will not have these resources. Can this be something that is purchased this summer, so that we can do the Weebly?
ReplyDeleteAny news from Lynda? Are we doing math this year then? When? Am I getting it twisted? Please clarify when you can, Cary.
ReplyDeleteI resubmitted the proposals (science and reading). Reading I put as Aug1-3 since they only gave us three days. Science I put 5 days for initial unit and then 2 days for feedback and reworking.
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard back from Lynda and I don't know about BrainPOP, et. al. - but I will text Julie to find out.
Thanks Cary!
